TRY GOL ON HIATUS

As some of you know, I’m pretty politically active and this is a huge election year in the United States. Not only will I work to help support Bob Barr’s presidential campaign, but I’m running for office this November as well. I am seeking a seat on the Lake Michigan College Board of Trustees, which is a 6 year term. This year, the election is a “pick 3″, so I will be going up against 3 incumbents, including the current board Chairman. So needless to say, I have a huge battle a head.

I plan on devoting most of my summer to my political aspirations. This is a very important election as I mentioned, so promoting the LIBERTARIAN PARTY is top priority. Unfortunately, running this Rugby & Soccer blog isn’t.

So with that being said, I’m here to announce that TryGol.com will be on a summer hiatus and will return around SEPTEMBER 1st. Even after that date, the posts will be few and far between, at least until after the General Election in November. I need as much time as possibly to work on my political campaign.

If you would like to keep up to date on my campaign for office, visit www.VoteGatties.org, which will be completed shortly.

I would like to wish U.S. Soccer, USA Rugby & the Chicago Fire the best of luck this summer. I would also like to wish Fulham FC good luck with the summer transfer market.  See you all in September!!!

Come On You Yanks!!!

I’ve been away for a couple of weeks, but it feels good to be back. Personally, I announced a couple weeks ago that I am running for political office this November! I will seek a 6 year term on the Lake Michigan College Board of Trustees. I’m very excited and looking forward to the biggest political challenge of my life.

So that is the biggest reason why this blog has laid dormant since Fulham’s “Great Escape”, but now I have some time on my hands and I’m very excited to bring this blog back to life. I may not post every day, but I will post enough to keep this shit going.

With all that in mind, allow me to proudly thump my chest a bit and scream from the top of my lungs….

COME ON YOU YANKS!!!

The United States National Team invades famed Wembley Stadium this afternoon, as we do battle with England. Man this will be fun. I’m just glad I have a boss who doesn’t mind if I go home early. Hell, he don’t have to pay me right? I’m doing the company a favor. The game will be broadcast live in the United States via ESPN Classic at 2:50 pm Eastern. You can also catch it live on ESPN360.com. For my Spanish speaking friends, you can catch it on delay via Galavision, although I don’t have the time in front of me. The bottom line, don’t miss this historic friendly.

Landon Donovan will become the 4th youngest man in the world to get his 100th cap. I could give a fuck less how people feel about Landon. This is a GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT.  As for the game itself, sure, the English side is filled with “stars”, however, they had better bring their “A” game because the Americans will be very up for this match. I’m going to predict a 2-1 victory for the Yanks. Perhaps today, we can finally earn a little respect.

I’ll have a post-match re-cap. You can check out the rosters below:

Sorry For The Lack Of Updates

Its been a pretty busy week. Between work and my last minute planning for the 2008 General Election (finally, an announcement is coming this weekend), I’ve had very little time for this blog. I will play catch up this weekend tonight. Its a pretty big weekend.

-FA CUP FINAL

-Guinness Premiership Semifinals

-League Football Playoffs

-MLS

Like I said, I’ll catch everyone up to speed tonight while my wife watches “Dr.Who?” because frankly, that show “weirds” me out a bit.

The Day After

Yesterday was the most stressful 76 minutes or so of my life. Watching the match live on Setanta Xtra, every time Birmingham City or Reading scored, my anxiety (and blood pressure no doubt) continued to increase. I never gave up hope but things were starting to look real grim.

Enter Jimmy Bullard & Danny Murphy…

Jimmy didn’t have his greatest game ever. He seemed to be “over playing” a bit I guess you could say. His service on free kicks & corners weren’t spectacular & he took some questionable shots at goal. However much like David Beckham, Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan, he stepped up in the clutch. His free kick was spot on and Danny Murphy, jumping higher than that man has ever jumped in his life, headed the ball into the back of the net. Danny’s “35 Million Pound Shot” will make him an instant Fulham legend & the celebration following the goal was priceless. What wasn’t “priceless” was when I jumped out of my recliner, screamed louder than I’ve ever screamed in my life, pumped my fist and started beating the recliner like a pro boxer for some odd reason. The re-sale value of my recliner took a major hit yesterday.

But then there was a problem. There was still 14+ minutes left in the match. My blood pressure was boiling for the final stage of the match and I think my wife feared for my health. Portsmouth had a few corners, a few shots on goal, they turned up the heat but some how, some way, the boys reached deep down into their souls and pulled off the miracle.

When the final whistle blew, I leaped off the couch (sitting on the recliner was no longer a safe option), got on my knees and pumped both fists into the air like I had just scored the winning goal at the World Cup. Only one word made it out of my mouth at that moment…”YES!!!!”

Fulham seemed to be “dead in the water” just a month ago with many pundits and supporters. I don’t want to brag but I will say that I slept well last night knowing that I never gave up hope. I realized that we were probably heading for the Championship, but until we were officially relegated, I held out hope. Glad I did.

Now 24 hours later, there is word that we may possibly get into the UEFA Cup next season due to the “Fair Play” spot given to England. If that happens, great, but all I care about today is that I will be able to watch my favorite football club in the world (sorry Fire) play on TV next year on a pretty regular basis. That is a great feeling.

I don’t want to look a head just yet. I don’t care who is staying, couldn’t care less about the transfer market. It doesn’t matter to me if Roy stays or goes (he should stay just for the record). I just want to continue to soak in the moment. As a Fulham supporter, what I witnessed over the past month was a miracle, plain and simple.

For the final time this season, allow me to proudly scream….

COME ON YOU WHITES!!!
